My Professional Ethics
My guiding life principle is to treat others the way I want to be treated, namely, with honesty, integrity, and compassion.
To me, being an ethical professional means upholding a standard of care by treating clients with respect, complete confidentiality, and with my full, non-judging attention.
It means staying within my scope of practice, and referring clients to other professionals when their needs exceed that.
I see the consultation or any educational setting as an opportunity to model acceptance of reality, and of who one is as a person. When we accept ourselves and our reality, we put ourselves in a better position to make choices that serve us rather than allowing negative self-talk or blaming to get in the way. This does not mean I condone complacency, it means I want to keep the focus forward looking rather than back. My aim is to model a positive attitude towards nourishment despite the challenges in our environment and food supply.
